Playing one regulation-length game of hockey is tiring, but imagine playing for 50 hours straight.
That’s just what one group of Canadian hockey players did, and they will live in infamy as world record-holders. A group from Nanaimo, British Columbia recently broke the Guinness world record for the longest game of indoor ball hockey ever played, according to CBC News of Canada.
The 30-player team, made up of members from the group Youth Sticking Together, started their game Friday and finished Sunday to capture the record, and it wasn’t easy.
“If anything you’re sleeping for an hour at most,” team member Aidan King said, “and then you’re playing again and it’s tiring as hell.”
The rules were pretty strict: the ball couldn’t be out of play for longer than 10 seconds, and none of the players were allowed to leave the building. Certainly having fans there to cheer the team on helped.
“It absolutely takes courage and guts and fortitude to pull something like this off,” said fan Tania Mandaras, who sported a silver pom-pom wig in the stands.
This wasn’t their first attempt at world record status, though. The team tried, unsuccessfully, to beat the world record for longest game of outdoor ball hockey ever played, which is 105 hours, but dropped out at 55 hours because of injuries.
