Toronto’s return to the Stanley Cup playoffs ended in heartbreaking fashion last season, but a Maple Leafs player took the Cup on a tour through the city’s streets Thursday afternoon.
Center Dave Bolland, who won the Stanley Cup with Chicago before being traded to the Leafs shortly after, brought the famed trophy back to his hometown of Mimico, a neighborhood in the southwest part of Ontario’s capital.
After being held in check during the first two rounds of the postseason, Bolland busted out against the Bruins in the Cup Final. “The Rat,” as he’s known around hockey circles, scored three goals in the series, including the series-clincher with less than a minute remaining in regulation in Game 6.
The Leafs can only hope he continues that type of production back in his hometown, which has not brought home a Stanley Cup of its own since 1967.
