David Ortiz Out of Lineup Again, Xander Bogaerts Gets Second Start as Red Sox Look for Series Win

Xander BogaertsThe Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t lost a series since mid-June, but the Red Sox will send Jake Peavy to the mound Sunday night with a chance to break that streak.

After the Sox bounced back from a tough loss on Thursday night, Jon Lester led the way in Game 2 of the series and pitched an absolute gem. The bats came alive for the Red Sox after being shut out the night before, and one of those bats belonged to a rookie who was anxious to get his first hit out of the way.

Less than 24 hours after notching his first major league hit, Xander Bogaerts will get his second major league start at shortstop for Boston, batting eighth. With left-hander Chris Capuano slated to start for the Dodgers, David Ortiz finds himself out of the lineup for the second day in a row. Mike Napoli will once again be taking over the duties at first base and bat cleanup.

The start marks Peavy’s fifth with the Red Sox, and the right-hander has only allowed one or two runs in three of his four starts since joining the team in late July. Peavy allowed just one run in 5 2/3 innings of work against the Giants his last time out in a 3-2 walk-off loss.
