That phrase is plastered in ballparks around the country, but A’s shortstop Eric Sogard must have missed the memo.
During the seventh inning of Thursday’s A’s-Astros game, Houston’s Chris Carter shattered his bat on a weak infield line drive. Sogard was able to make the catch without much effort, but he failed to account for the barrel of Carter’s bat, which smacked the infielder at the ankles and knocked him to the ground.
