Johnny ManzielThe NCAA finally threw the book at Johnny Manziel on Wednesday, but they didn’t throw it very hard.

Manziel has been suspended for the first half of Texas A&M’s season opener against Rice this weekend, according to multiple reports. Neither the school nor the NCAA have confirmed the suspension.

With the punishment, the NCAA will reportedly conclude its investigation into allegations that the Aggies quarterback has, on several occasions, received compensation for autographs.

This seems to be the ideal resolution for Manziel and A&M, as the Heisman Trophy winner will serve his ban in a game that has all the makings of a blowout. It also removes any doubt over Manziel’s eligibility for Sept. 14, when Texas A&M hosts defending champion Alabama in the marquee matchup of the season for both teams
