Jonny Gomes, Brandon Snyder in Lineup for Jake Peavy’s Red Sox Debut Against Diamondbacks

Jake PeavyJust days after being traded from the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal, Jake Peavy will make his Red Sox debut on Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Peavy, who went 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA during his time with the White Sox this season, will try to get Boston back in the win column after a 7-6 loss on Friday. The right-hander won his last two starts with the Southsiders before being sent off to Boston, and he will look to continue that success against a Diamondbacks team that shelled Jon Lester for six runs in Friday’s win.

The Sox hope to give Peavy some run support in his debut, but the runs won’t come easy, as Diamondbacks ace and All-Star Patrick Corbin is pitching. Corbin is 12-2 with a 2.24 ERA on the season, including Sunday’s outing against the Padres, in which the lefty gave up one run through eight innings but took the loss. The Diamondbacks are 18-3 in games Corbin has started this season.

Brandon Snyder will look to do his part in bringing offense to the table, as the 26-year-old will get the start at third base and hit ninth behind shortstop Stephen Drew. Jonny Gomes will also be in the lineup for the Sox, protecting left field and batting sixth in the order behind Mike Napoli. Although the slugger is hitting just .236 on the season, he has come up clutch in many late-game scenarios this season, including a game-tying RBI single in Thursday’s come-from-behind win over the Mariners.
