It took a while, but LeGarrette Blount finally made it to the end zone.

The new Patriots running back was the star of the team’s preseason-opening 31-22 victory over the Eagles on Friday night, tallying 101 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. He picked up half of that yardage total on his first touchdown run.

With New England leading 17-14 late in the second quarter, Blount received a handoff from quarterback Ryan Mallett. The run play was designed to go left, but when Blount realized he had nowhere to go, he turned around and ran back toward midfield. He then used a screen from Mallett, cut back and rumbled his way down the left sideline before jumping into the end zone for the 51-yard score. Listed at 247 pounds, one can imagine it wasn’t easy for Blount to run so much on one play.
