FOXBORO, Mass. — Logan Ryan got his first taste of NFL action on Friday night, and he owes the experience to his former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano.
“He took me as a boy, at 18, and helped me become the player I am today,” Ryan said of his college coach on Monday.
Ryan played three seasons under Schiano at Rutgers before the coach left the Scarlet Knights to become the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now a Patriot, Ryan will have a chance to show his former coach just how far he’s come as Schiano and the Bucs visit Gillette Stadium for three days of joint practices on Tuesday.
The opportunity to catch up with and play in front of their old coach will be special for Devin McCourty, Duron Harmon and all nine Rutgers players on the Patriots’ current roster. Ryan is especially excited for the opportunity, but he knows that he also has a job to do.
“It will be great to see him and a lot of the guys,” Ryan said, “but I’m really focused on what we need to do.”
Maybe the added motivation will help Ryan play a little better than he did against the Eagles on Friday.
