Malcolm SubbanThe Bruins’ young guns will get a one-week head start on the veterans, as a group of 22 roster hopefuls will convene for the team’s rookie camp beginning Sept. 4.

The squad, which includes 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies, will begin practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington on Wednesday before heading down to Coral Gables, Fla., for the remainder of the week.

While in Florida, the team’s schedule includes scrimmages against rookie squads from the Lightning, Panthers and Predators.

Nine of the 22 invitees spent time in Providence last season, and 21-year-old center Ryan Spooner spent four games with the NHL club. Spooner and fellow forwards Jared Knight and Anthony Camara are all expected to contend for roster spots when Boston’s training camp begins in earnest on Sept. 11.

Goalie Malcolm Subban will be the only first-round pick in attendance, as the 24th overall pick in last year’s draft expects to make his P-Bruins debut this season. He’ll be joined between the pipes by 22-year-old Adam Morrison, who spent last season in the ECHL.

Defenseman Mitchell Dempsey, who was drafted in the seventh round this past June, is the  only 2013 draft pick to receive an invite.
