Mark Cuban’s Pitch to Dwight Howard Included Superman-Themed Video in Mavericks’ Attempt to Sign Center (Video)

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban may have been unsuccessful in his attempts to woo Dwight Howard and get the center to sign with Dallas this offseason, but at least he had the most creative pitch.

Cuban and his team came up with the idea of making a Superman-themed video, which they presented to Howard during an appearance with the center. Howard is famous for donning a Superman cape during the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, which likely contributed to the theme of the video as well as Howard’s infatuation with the superhero. Cuban’s attempts ultimately failed, though, as Howard decided to join the Rockets.

Cuban discussed the unsuccessful courting process in a post on his personal blog on Saturday.

“I do have to say the meeting with Dwight was very interesting,” Cuban wrote. “He is a smart guy. Much smarter than people give him credit for. He is also a very, very good listener.  Unlike most people, he spent far more time listening than talking.  And he had the best response to an opening question that I have ever heard from a player, or anyone for that matter.  When we asked him what his goal was, his response was very specific ‘I want to be Epic.’ Which was a perfect lead in to the video we created for him.”
