Mark Sanchez Talking Like Playoffs Are Given for New York Jets This Season

Mark SanchezMark Sanchez didn’t exactly help the Jets’ chances last season, but the quarterback is still under the impression the Jets will be in the playoffs come January.

The Jets finished with a 6-10 record last season and traded away their best player inĀ Darrelle RevisĀ this offseason. Yet Sanchez, who led the NFL with 26 turnovers and completed just 54 percent of his passes in 2012, is convinced that he is going to turn things around this season, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“It will turn around,” Sanchez said. “Weā€™ll get back on track, get a couple wins, andĀ once we get in the playoffs this year weā€™ll make a little run. Thatā€™s all you need to do is make your run, get hot at the right time, stay healthy.”

Sanchez’s horrid play was a big step back from 2011 and a long way removed from the play he exhibited during the Jets’ back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in 2009 and 2010. The Jets will need almost everything to go right and every player to stay healthy in order to pull off the 180-degree turnaround and make the playoffs in 2013.

It’s not going very well so far.

No. 1 wide receiverĀ Santonio Holmes (foot) is expected to miss at least the start of the season. Running back Chris Ivory continues to miss time with a hamstring injury. Both wide receiver Vidal Hazelton and cornerback Aaron BerryĀ suffered ACL injuries in training camp.Ā Even Sanchez’s starting job isn’t safe, as second-round rookieĀ Geno SmithĀ is challenging for the position.

With that in mind, Sanchez can continue to believe that the Jets will make the playoffs and that he’s going to start all 16 games at quarterback this season, just so long as he knows that he’s probably delusional.
