Once a potent bat behind David Ortiz, Mike Napoli has become a hole in the middle of the Red Sox’ batting order.
Napoli has recorded just two hits in the past week (hitting at a .091 clip over that span) and has seen his batting average dwindle to .251 — his lowest mark since April 21. Manager John Farrell elected to start Mike Carp at first base Wednesday night in Houston, giving Napoli the night off, and he explained why in the dugout prior to the game.
