Danny AmendolaTom Brady may be without his new favorite target this Thursday.

Danny Amendola, who was absent from Patriots practice Monday, may not play when the team visits the Lions, according CSNNE.com’s Tom Curran.

Curran cites a source saying that Amendola missed practice due to an undisclosed injury, and his status is “up in the air” for the team’s third preseason game. The aliment is reportedly not a head injury and is not expected to be a long-term issue.

After catching just one pass in the preseason opener against Philadelphia, Amendola racked up six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown last Friday against the Buccaneers. He did not appear to suffer any noticeable injuries during his one quarter of play.

Health has been a concern for the wideout in the past, though. Amendola was sidelined for 15 games in 2011 after dislocating his elbow in Week 1, and shoulder and ankle injuries forced him to miss five more games last season.
