There was a common belief that August could be a busy month for Major League Baseball teams looking to make moves after the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline came and went with little movement. It sounds like things are about to start heating up again.
FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports via Twitter that Phillies third baseman Michael Young has cleared waivers, which means he could now be traded to any team in baseball. However, Young does have a no-trade clause, so he would have to approve any potential deal. That may have also complicated matters at the deadline, where rumors flew about Young’s willingness to accept a trade. At the time, reports seemed to indicate — to varying degrees — that Young would possibly be open to joining the Yankees or Red Sox or rejoining the Rangers.
Young has appeared in 106 of Philadelphia’s 113 games and has posted a .276/.343/.404 slash line. He has eight home runs and 36 RBIs as well. His defense, primarily at third base, is questionable, to say the very least.
