Robert Griffin III will be back, and he’ll back for the season opener.
ESPN.com reports the Washington quarterback will be under center for the Redskins when they open their 2013 season in Week 1 on Monday night against the New York Giants.
Griffin’s status was questioned after he had offseason knee surgery for an injury late last season that was made worse in the team’s playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
According to the report, Griffin must still meet with Dr. James Andrews on Thursday night to get the final clearance to make the start in Week 1. ESPN reports, however, the meeting is just a “formality” and that Griffin should be given the go-ahead for the opener.
Griffin recently indicated that he was at 100 percent, as his status has been a dominant storyline of the league’s offseason and postseason. Griffin was named Offensive Rookie of the Year last season, throwing for 3,200 yards, rushing for another 815 and scoring a combined 27 touchdowns.
