The NBA’s rookie symposium is the league’s attempt to introduce fresh-faced former college players to the world of millionaire adulthood.
Naturally, the best way to do that is to operate the glorified charm school like a single-gender dorm at a conservative liberal arts college.
Shabazz Muhammad, the one-time blue-chipper whose draft stock fell so low the Minnesota Timberwolves were able to nab him with the 14th overall pick in June, was sent home from the NBA’s Rookie Transition Program for bringing a “female guest” into his hotel room in Florham Park, N.J., USA Today reports. The program’s administrators were enforcing a rule against “unapproved” outside guests.
Muhammad will be fined and required to re-attend the program next summer with members of the 2014 rookie class, according to the report. The four-day camp offers seminars and lectures on how to transition into NBA life. If one of their tips is to avoid “female guests” beyond these four days, good luck getting that advice to stick.
