The Patriots’ cornerback depth is thinning out fast.

Second-year corner and expected starter Alfonzo Dennard left the practice field in Philadelphia on Thursday, displaying a slight limp as he walked off the field with strength and conditioning coach Harold Nash, according to reports.

Dennard did return to the field before the end of practice, but he was still seen walking with a limp.

Cornerback was expected to be a strength for the Patriots entering this season, but injuries are slowly decimating that thought. Ras-I Dowling has missed the last week with an undisclosed injury. Dennard missed a few practices last week, too, and this most recent hiccup only makes matters worse.

Aside from the reports, it is unlikely that Dennard will play in the Patriots’ first preseason game on Friday. Bill Belichick tends to take extra precautions when it comes to injuries, and that outlook probably increases by tenfold when it comes to the preseason.
