Back in the ’90s, Ken Griffey Jr. was, without a doubt, the coolest player in Major League Baseball. Whether it was his youthful enthusiasm for the game, the swagger he carried himself with or all those home runs, there may be no player in the history of baseball more imitated by young fans.
Over the weekend, the Seattle Mariners inducted Griffey into their Hall of Fame, paying tribute to The Kid’s incredible 21-year career. The team held a luncheon in Griffey’s honor Friday, then held an hour-long pregame ceremony Saturday, in which many former teammates participated.
However, the best tribute to Griffey was pulled off by the current Mariners.
During the ceremony, most all of the current Seattle squad stood at the top step of the dugout, wearing their hats backwards just as Griffey was known to do while taking batting practice or shagging fly balls in the outfield. Check out an image of the oh-so-appropriate tribute below.
