Soccer Fan Runs Onto Field, Forces Tim Howard to Save Penalty Kick (Video)

One soccer fan in San Francisco, Calif., gave new meaning to the old adage that says “take your chance” when it comes.

The fan in question interrupted a penalty shootout Wednesday, when he ran onto the field at AT&T Park and took a shot on goal.

The lighthearted moment came during a semifinal of the International Champions Cup between Juventus and Everton. Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah was lining up for the shot. The fan with the funny hat and decent technique had other ideas.

In a soccer sense, he failed to take his chance, as Everton (and U.S. Men’s National Team) goalkeeper Tim Howard easily made the save. But in a broader sense, he saw his chance — that is, to run onto the field and take a shot — and he sure took it.

Everton won the shootout 6-5 — no thanks to the interrupting fan.
