George WinnThe cuts keep coming for the Patriots.

After Tim Tebow was released, it wasn’t long before his favorite target was going to be waived, as well. The Patriots cut wide receiver Quentin Sims, according to a source. The Tennessee-Martin product caught three passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns in New England’s final preseason game against the Giants on Thursday night. Sims had developed a rapport with Tebow throughout the summer.

Despite churning out a 14-carry, 54-yard, one-touchdown performance in Thursday’s preseason finale, New England also has waived running back George Winn, according to a source. Winn signed with the Patriots June 17. He went undrafted out of Cincinnati after running for 1,334 yards on 243 carries his senior season.

Winn’s release leaves the Patriots with Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, LeGarrette Blount, Brandon Bolden and James Develin for now. New England has until Saturday at 6 p.m. to trim their roster down to 53 players. The Patriots have Danny Amendola, Kenbrell Thompkins, Julian Edelman, Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Matthew Slater at wide receiver.
