Tim Tebow, Tom Brady, Josh McDanielsTim Tebow may still be a work in progress at quarterback, but he’s showing promise at other positions — if the Patriots choose to use him there.

While Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels have been coy about whether Tebow will be called upon to help as a tight end or on special teams, he’s seen a little bit of practice work in situations other than quarterback, where the team has said he would play. That included some time as a punt protector this week.

Tebow also played in that role last year for the Jets, with mixed results. The punt protector lines up behind the long snapper and makes some in-game calls. Last year, Tebow had some doozies at the spot, giving up a blocked punt (and a touchdown), but he was also a capable option for fakes.

Patriots punter Zoltan Mesko has worked with Tebow some this season, and he had high praise so far.

“He’s a very versatile athlete and a pretty good quarterback,” Mesko said, according to the Boston Herald. “I think last practice [Saturday] was the first time I kind of [was] involved more in the situations and was into the game more. He did a great job.

“I’m not really commenting on other teammates, but he’s definitely bringing something else to the plate.”

Mesko also spoke highly of Tebow in general.

“He’s a pretty good guy,” he said. “I love what he brings to the team and what he brings to the field.”

Tebow played last year with Jets punter Robert Malone, but he was eventually used sparingly in games by New York.
