Wes Welkerm, Brandon Browner, Earl ThomasWes Welker‘s chemistry with Peyton Manning might be a little impeded over the next week or so.

Welker sprained his right ankle during the Broncos’ 40-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night, head coach John Fox noted during his postgame press conference. Fox indicated that Welker would be evaluated on Sunday, but it could be a week-to-week proposition, according to Pro Football Talk.

The Broncos will likely take a cautious approach with Welker, no matter the severity of the injury, as he’s expected to help expand Manning’s passing game this season and they can’t afford to lose him for the start of the regular season. Manning and Welker have already developed some good chemistry on the field, which was quite evident on Saturday.

Manning hooked up with Welker three times for 31 yards during the few series the two played on the night, which was a big improvement over the goose egg the pair put up against the 49ers in the preseason opener. The two even hooked up on a pretty 11-yard score to the left side of the end zone for their first (preseason) touchdown. It would appear that was also the play where Welker injured his ankle.

The Broncos next preseason game is slated for Saturday night against the St. Louis Rams. We’ll see if Welker suits up in that game.
