The Red Sox made a few roster moves prior to Saturday’s game.

Will Middlebrooks has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, while Brandon Snyder has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow ulnar neuritis. Franklin Morales has been activated from the 15-day disabled list. To make room for him, Pedro Beato has been optioned to Pawtucket.

Middlebrooks’ major league stint is his second of 2013. He was demoted on June 25 after struggling out of the gate, but he has since played well down in the minors. The 24-year-old was immediately penciled into John Farrell’s lineup card on Saturday, playing third base and batting ninth against Jeremy Guthrie and the Royals.

Morales had been on the 15-day disabled list since June 25 with a left pectoralis strain. The left-hander also started the season on the DL with a lower back strain, and he’s been limited to just six appearances in 2013. Morales is 2-0 with a 7.30 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
