Xander Bogaerts Says Competing in World Baseball Classic Helped Ease Nerves Entering Debut (Video)

Xander Bogaerts made his major league debut Tuesday night, but it was not the first time he’s taken the field with some of baseball’s best.

The 20-year-old shortstop competed for his country in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, going 5-for-19 for a Netherlands team that lost to the eventual champion Dominican Republic in the semifinals — at AT&T Park in San Francisco, the site of Bogaerts’ Red Sox debut.

In an interview with Jenny Dell prior to Tuesday’s game, Bogaerts said that playing on an international stage in the WBC helped ease the nerves he’s felt since his call-up. Check out the full interview in the video above.
