The Yankees have suffered through an injury-plagued, controversy-filled season, and they find themselves struggling to make a dent in the playoff race as the season winds down, currently sitting eight games back of the American League East-leading Red Sox. The summer of 2013 hasn’t been kind to the Bronx Bombers, and their attendance numbers show it.

According to Business Insider, attendance is down 8.5 percent from last season at Yankee Stadium, and so the Yanks have turned to Groupon in an effort to fill the seats. The deal offers a 42 percent discount on ticket prices, and fans can purchase up to eight main-level seats for $35 each, or up to eight field-level seats for $60 each for six upcoming games against the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles.

Quite a bargain from one of the richest teams in sports, but at least the Yankees haven’t reached the Marlins’ level of desperation when it comes ticket sales.
