Who is the “Face of Baseball?”
That was the question that the folks at ESPN.com wanted answered, so they turned to Turnkey Intelligence, one of America’s most prominent sports-polling firms. The results were not only interesting, but they might also be enough to keep MLB commissioner Bud Selig up at night.
ESPN.com reports that Alex Rodriguez was the first player named by 22 percent of the 1,028 fans polled by Turnkey when they were asked, “What MLB player would you define as the ‘Face of Baseball’ today?” The fans reportedly weren’t provided any names or other information when asked the question.
It’s worth noting that the poll was conducted over three days from Aug. 20-22. In other words, it took place during a time in which A-Rod — who is currently appealing his record 211-game suspension — was all over the news. But it’s still interesting, even though the survey also revealed that Rodriguez was a more popular pick among “casual” fans than “avid” fans.
Derek Jeter (12 percent), Miguel Cabrera (9 percent) and Mike Trout (3 percent) rounded out the top four, and 11 percent selected “None.”
The poll revealed a ton of other information regarding the “Face of Baseball” as well. ESPN.com has it all broken down, and it’s definitely worth checking out.
