Arizona Reporter Jokes About Yasiel Puig’s Defection From Cuba After Dodgers Swim in Diamondbacks’ Pool

Yasiel PuigBack away from the Twitter machine, slowly, and don’t make any sudden moves, Bob Young.

Young, a columnist for The Arizona Republic, added a whole new layer to the Dodgers-Diamondbacks dispute with a tweet that was probably intended as a joke but just came out as really offensive.

The Diamondbacks are grouchy because they asked the Dodgers not to celebrate clinching the National League West by jumping into the pool at Chase Field, yet when the Dodgers did clinch, going for a dip was exactly what they did. If the D-backs seem juvenile in this situation, wait until you get a load of Young’s tweet.

Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers’ phenom right fielder, is a Cuban defector. There are unsubstantiated rumors that a drug cartel aided his defection after multiple failed attempts, but he did not swim to the U.S., either through the Gulf of Mexico or a dinky pool in a baseball stadium. Nice try, though, Bob.
