Bernard Pollard says the NFL just wants him to play two-hand touch. That may be true, but if the safety does revert to two-hand touch, he still needs to remember not to use those two hands to hit anyone’s head.
The head area appears to be the sticking point in Pollard’s hit on Houston’s Andre Johnson in last Sunday’s game. While Pollard led with his shoulder on the crushing blow to Johnson, which left the Pro Bowl wideout with a concussion, that shoulder did hit Johnson’s head while Johnson appeared to be in a defenseless position. Hence the $42,000 fine that Pollard tweeted he had received from the NFL.

Pollard is not the first defensive player to complain about the NFL’s rules, which are meant to protect players. Other defenders have said they struggle to know when and where to hit.
But Pollard, who is with his fourth NFL team in eight seasons, has also been in the middle of such controversies before, the most well known being how he’s a one-man wrecking crew when it comes to the Patriots’ offense.
