Brandon Bolden Says ‘That’s Terrible’ About Broncos Playing ‘Rock-Paper-Scissors’ to Determine Goal-Line Carries

Brandon BoldenBrandon Bolden, Stevan Ridley and LeGarrette Blount are happy to be in a running back by committee. In other words, they won’t be playing any games to determine goal-line carries.

The same does not hold true in Denver. The Broncos’ running backs played “rock-paper-scissors” to determine which player would get the opportunity to score a touchdown on Monday night against the Raiders, according to USA Today.

“As the officials deliberated if [RonnieHillman had crossed the goal line after a 13-yard gain, Hillman, [Knowshon] Moreno and [Montee] Ball decided to play rock-paper-scissors for which running back would get the goal line carry if the score was overturned.,” Lindsay H. Jones wrote. “Hillman said Moreno threw down a rock one beat too early and was disqualified, and Hillman’s scissors trumped Ball’s paper.”

Bolden said the backs sit back and wait for their names to be called in New England.

“Oh no,” Bolden said. “We don’t do that. We kind of just sit back and wait for it. And kind of mess with each other like, ‘Hey, you in there,’ and it’s like, ‘No just playing,’ before you run out on the field.

“As far as paper-rock-scissors, I think that’s kind of going to extreme. I’d kind of be mad about that one. I’d be too mad I lost.”

Bolden has talked about how the running-back-by-committee approach works for the Patriots. He said it keeps them fresh and if one player scores a touchdown, all three players will be dancing together.

“So, uh, that’s terrible,” Bolden said laughing. “They do rock-paper-scissors? That’s bad. That’s not cool. That’s not cool at all.”
