Sept. 12, 1979 was a career night for Carl Yastrzemski. That was the night he hit a routine ground ball just past Yankees second baseman Willie Randolph — the hit was No. 3,000 in his career.
With that hit, Yaz became the 15th player in Major League Baseball history to reach the 3,000-hit plateau, and he became the first American League player to have 3,000 hits and 400 home runs. In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we take you back to that night in ’79 to hear what Yaz had to say after the historic moment.
