Hindsight is 20/20, and Carlos Gomez is seeing his role in Wednesday night’s brawl with the Atlanta Braves more clearly than ever.
After the Milwaukee center fielder unloaded on a Paul Maholm pitch to put the Brewers up 1-0 in only the second at-bat of the game, Gomez admired his home run for a little longer than necessary — or a lot longer, if you ask Braves players Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann. The Atlanta catcher confronted Gomez halfway down the third base line, and the benches cleared soon after.
Gomez initially contended that his hot-dogging was payback for a June 23 incident between him and Maholm. He wasn’t exactly remorseful following the game, but later that night Gomez took to Twitter to try to make things right.
