Leonys Martin Traps Ball During Diving Attempt, Rangers Receive Big Break After Umpires Rule It a Catch (GIF)

The Rays and the Rangers know they can’t afford any mistakes as the two squads battle to keep their seasons alive, but they have no control over the mistakes the umpires make in the do-or-die game.

During the top of the seventh inning, Delmon Young came to the plate with runners on first and second and lined a ball into center field. What looked to be a hit that could’ve driven in one or possibly two runs for the Rays, turned out to be the third out of the inning for the Rangers.

Center fielder Leonys Martin made a diving attempt on the ball that he was able to trap in his glove after one hop. The umpiring crew, with two additional members for the tiebreaker game, didn’t see it that way, however, and they ruled it a catch.
