Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid in a world-record transfer on Sept. 2. He finally met his now “boss” on Wednesday.

As Bale arrived for his first day of practice with his new team, he encountered Cristiano Ronaldo in the parking lot. The two stars shook hands, shared a few words and walked into the practice facility together.

Real Madrid photographers were on hand to capture the moment, and they posted pictures on the club’s Facebook timeline.

Bale’s reported transfer fee of £85.3 million ($135 million) surpassed the £80 million ($126.4 million) Real Madrid paid for Manchester United Ronaldo in 2009. Bale’s newfound status as the world’s most expensive player heaps pressure upon him, but he won’t bother trying to become the main man at Real Madrid, according to ESPN.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is, for me, the best player in the world,” Bale said at his unveiling on Sept. 2. “He is a massive factor why I wanted to come here. The team is full of world-class players, no better than him. It will be an honor to play with him, and hopefully learn from him. Hopefully we can win a lot of trophies together.

“He’s the boss here I think, the main player, the best player in the world. I want to obviously help the team and try to win trophies. I will have to wait and see what he says.”

It’s always good to have a healthy relationship with one’s boss. Bale appears to be heading in the right direction.
