The Red Sox had to wait at least one more night to officially call themselves playoff bound, but a loss to the Orioles in 12 innings did not overshadow a solid bounce-back performance for starter Jake Peavy.

Peavy struggled with command during his last start, tying a season high with five walks in a loss to Tampa Bay. Those issues were remedied on Wednesday, as Peavy walked just one while striking out eight — his highest total in nine starts with Boston — over seven innings of work.
