BOSTON — The Red Sox have a major issue on their hands, and it involves Dustin Pedroia.

Pedroia was given the night off Saturday. No big deal, right? Well, Pedroia doesn’t really function like most other athletes — or people for that matter. The veteran second baseman almost certainly would rather be on the field, which means that it should be an interesting night for those teammates who suddenly have to deal with his crazy energy in the dugout all game.

“His biggest thing is he doesn’t know what to do,” Farrell said. “He’s going to go stir crazy for nine innings. It may end up with him being back on the field because we want to get him the heck out of the dugout. He’ll create too much of an issue.”

Farrell said that Pedroia’s off day is something that’s been planned for a while, yet it’s always strange when someone besides No. 15 jogs out to second base. Pedroia has played in 154 of Boston’s first 155 games.
