Ndamukong Suh was fined $100,000 on Tuesday for an illegal block, a punishment he is currently appealing. But the news hasn’t been all bad for the Lions defensive lineman.
Birmingham, Mich., deputy chief of police Mark Clemence told the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday that Suh will not face charges stemming from allegations that he threatened a cable repairman with a pellet gun in his backyard last month.
The case report states that Comcast employee Spencer Ferrell called police and accused Suh of pointing the weapon — which, according to Farrell, “looked like an AK-47” — directly at him while he was working on a utility pole behind Suh’s home on Aug. 16.
When questioned by investigators, Suh reportedly said that he picked up the gun and peered through the scope when he heard rustling in the trees, saying “that he was ‘in fear’ for his and family members’ safety daily and would always protect his family,”
“If you think I show aggression on the football field, I would show more to protect my family,” Suh told officers, according to the report.
Upon realizing realizing who Farrell was, though, Suh says he pointed the pellet gun away and conversed with the repairman. Surveillance video from the lineman’s home corroborated his story, according to the report, and police cleared him of wrongdoing.
“At no time in the video did Mr. Suh point the pellet gun at Mr. Ferrell in a threatening manner,” the report said. “The video shows the pellet gun in Suh’s right hand pointing at the ground. After several minutes, Mr. Suh has it over his right shoulder, pointing away from Mr. Ferrell.”
