FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots will have some depth at tight end when they face the Jets Thursday night.
The team re-signed Matthew Mulligan, who was cut Thursday, before New England traveled to Buffalo. Mulligan signed with the team last Tuesday. He worked out with the Ravens on Monday, according to a source.
Mulligan has previously played with the Dolphins, Titans, Jets, Rams and Packers. He’s mostly known as a blocking tight end. He has just 14 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown in four NFL seasons.
Mulligan went undrafted out of Maine in 2008. He has started 20 games in his NFL career. He had nine starts apiece in each of his last two seasons.
New England was down to just Michael Hoomanawanui at tight end. Rob Gronkowski is still recovering from back and forearm surgeries and Zach Sudfeld has a hamstring injury.
