There was nothing meaningless about the Sabres-Leafs preseason game on Sunday night — at least regarding the fight that broke out, anyway.

Chaos ensued during the third period of the game, immediately after Buffalo’s Corey Tropp and Toronto’s Jamie Devane dropped the gloves. Once Tropp was taken off the ice with the help of his teammates, John Scott went after an unwilling Phil Kessel who slashed the Buffalo enforcer a couple times before guys from both sides jumped in.

A line brawl then broke out as Maple Leafs’ David Clarkson left the bench to join the pandemonium on the ice. The line brawl also included everyone’s favorite type of hockey fight: one of the goalie variety. Ryan Miller and Jonathan Bernier weren’t left out of the festivities, and once Bernier got an arm free he was able to lay some solid hits on the Sabres goaltender.

Once order was finally restored, 31 penalties totaling 221 minutes were handed out.
