Donte GreeneSorry, pun lovers. You won’t be able to get your “CELTICS … GREENE” jerseys after all.

The Celtics will waive Donte Greene, who will sign with a team in China, HoopsHype reports. Thus brings an end to Greene’s time in Boston after 34 days without ever suiting up in the color that matches his last name (minus an “E”).

Greene came to the Celtics in exchange for Fab Melo as part of a cost-cutting trade Aug. 15. Greene’s contract was fully non-guaranteed, while Melo’s contract was fully guaranteed for the 2013-14 season. The Grizzlies waived Melo last week using the provision of the collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to “stretch” a player’s salary cap hit over multiple years.

Waiving Greene should put the Celtics below the $71.7 million luxury tax line. They were about $500,000 over the tax line prior to the deal.
