Geno Smith, Jay-ZGeno Smith has been getting a lot of congratulations over the first few weeks of the NFL season. On Sunday, he got some from one of his idols.

After leading the Jets to their second win of the season on Sunday, Smith attended a joint birthday party for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant and rapper Wale, who both just so happen to be managed by Roc Nation. The event brought a collection of big name celebrities together, including Roc Nation founder and legendary rapper Jay Z, according to the New York Post’s Page Six.

During the party at Avenue nightclub in New York City, Jay Z spotted Smith and gave him a pat on the back while offering up some congratulations on the rookie’s big win.

The two have been connected in the past, as Smith is also signed to Jay Z’s sports management label. The signing, along with a photo Smith Instagrammed during the summer, drew some speculation about Jay Z’s involvement in Smith’s recruitment and eventually led to an investigation by the NFLPA.

Whether the two chatted business during their most recent encounter is unknown, but Jay Z seems awfully excited to see his firm’s client succeeding either way.
