The UEFA Champions League is back in full effect. If you don’t believe us, check out these goals.

The first round of group-stage games took place on Tuesday. While the games weren’t the most competitive contests in history, star players young and old scored some fantastic goals, which remind us why the world enjoys the Champions League so much.

It’s no surprise that Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo scored great goals. As forwards, it’s their job to score goals, and that’s what they do week-in and week-out.

Midfielders Isco and Yaya Toure are no strangers to the score-sheet either, but what is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Simon Rolfes doing on there? You’ll find out when you see his goal.

The best of the bunch might have gone to Olympiacos winger Vladimir Weiss. His solo goal started the role call of stunners, so we’ll start with him.

His first-half, one-man show tied Olympiacos’ game with PSG, but the Greek team fell to its French opponent 4-1 when it was all over.

Isco opened the scoring in Real Madrid’s rout of Galatasaray in the first half. He displayed excellent technique in controlling Angel di Maria‘s cross-field pass before calmly beating the goalkeeper with a perfectly placed shot.

Rolfes’ second-half curler tied the score in Bayer Leverkusen’s game at Manchester United. It was a great goal, but the scoreline wouldn’t stand for long.

Van Persie scored this goal — just your run-of-the-mill “RVP volley” — seconds later. United would eventually cruise to a 4-2 victory.

Toure, Manchester City’s midfield titan, welcomed Czech club Viktoria Plzen to European soccer’s elite competition with this strike. It was the second goal in City’s 3-0 win and what a goal it was.

Ronaldo had the last word. He capped a slalom run through Galatasaray’s defense with a thunder-bolt of a finish. The goal gave Real Madrid a 6-1 lead and completed a hat-trick for Ronaldo.
