Scott Boras Expects Jacoby Ellsbury to Return by Playoffs, Claims Everyone Is ‘On the Same Page’

Jacoby EllsburyThe Red Sox want and expect Jacoby Ellsbury to return before the season ends. It sounds as if Ellsbury’s agent wants the same thing.

That seems simple enough, but the obvious point of potential complication comes from the fact that Ellsbury’s agent is Scott Boras. Not one known for taking teams’ best interests into mind, it wouldn’t be too shocking if we eventually found out that Boras was at least somewhat apprehensive about Ellsbury returning as soon as possible, especially in a contract season. However, that doesn’t sound to be the case.

The Boston Globe reports Boras is also hopeful and expects that Ellsbury will return before the season ends after the outfielder suffered a small fracture in his foot. That injury has Ellsbury sitting at the moment, but it sounds like everyone expects him to be back sooner rather than later.

“The Red Sox’ interests and our interests are the same in this, we clearly want Jacoby to be back for the postseason and we’re all on the same page to make sure he’s available,” Boras said, according to Boston.com.

Boras also said the injury is “self-healing,” and that it’s all about getting the swelling down. There’s still no definite timetable on when Ellsbury may actually return, but Boras doesn’t sound too concerned.

“I think it will be short,” he told The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham. “He’ll be able to get into a tennis shoe and do some hitting and from there maybe DH a game or two before going back to the outfield.

Boras also insisted “We all want the same thing here.”

Ellsbury has been one of the Red Sox’ best players this season. Ellsbury has played in 131 games this season, and he’s hitting .299 with eight home runs and 52 RBIs atop the Boston order. The outfielder also leads the league with 52 stolen bases.
