Serena Williams has destroyed everything in her path this year. On Monday, though, her opponents got a break, and her racket took the brunt instead.
Williams and her sister, Venus, were playing in a doubles match at the China Open. They had ample opportunities to win, leading 4-1 in the second set and then gaining two match points in the third-set tiebreak. But it all went away when Williams double-faulted to hand the victory to the sisters’ foes.
There wasn’t much left to do but smash the bits out of her racket and chuck it into the bench area before hugging her sister and then giving postgame handshakes all around.
