St. John’s Prep’s Johnathan Thomas Returns Interception 107 Yards for Touchdown (Video)

Johnathan Thomas racked up 228 yards on just 27 carries Friday night, but the St. John’s Prep star’s most impressive rushing display came on the defensive side of the ball.

With Central Catholic driving deep into Prep territory during the fourth quarter, Thomas, whom ESPN Boston calls the No. 1 high school recruit in Massachusetts, picked off Raiders quarterback Michael Milano seven yards deep in his own end zone.

His decision to run the ball out initially appeared to be a foolish one, as Thomas was bottled up near the goal line, but the 210-pound senior was able to evade a pair of tacklers inside his own 5-yard-line and another three around the Prep 30 before galloping down the sideline for an incredible, 107-yard pick-six.

Thomas’ three touchdowns on the night led the Eagles to a 40-21 win in a battle of two of the state’s top 10 teams, and the running back was honored Monday morning on SportsCenter, which named his return the No. 1 play of the weekend.
