David Zibung was already having a rough day when it took a turn for the worse.

Zibung is a goalkeeper for Swiss Super League soccer club FC Luzern. His team was losing 2-0 to Grasshopper Club Zürich in the 75th minute when Grasshoppers winger Izet Hajrovic stepped on his face, causing deep cuts, which sent Zubing to the hospital.

Hajrovic entered Luzern’s penalty area on a breakaway and, like any good goalkeeper, Zibung came off his line to make it harder for the attacker to score. The two players collided, and Hajrovic planted his studs in Zibung’s face.

The impact drew blood from a number of spots on Zibung’s face, including a three-inch cut that caused blood to gush onto the field. Zibung needed immediate medical attention, and he left the game.

Luzern fell to second-place Grasshoppers 2-0.
