During the day, Larry Krystkowiak is the men’s head basketball coach at the University of Utah. In his spare time, though, he moonlights as some sort of massive superhero, catching bad guys and making the world a better place.
The 6-foot-9 former NBA forward was on his way to his team’s first practice of the season at the Huntsman Center on Saturday morning when he spied a man riding a bike and wheeling along an additional bike.
Krystkowiak chased down the assumed bike thief, forced him to take a seat on the sidewalk and called campus police, who also found five stolen cell phones in his backpack, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
“The guy asked me if I was going to chase him if he attempted to run,” Krystkowiak said Saturday night. “I told him that if he tried to run, I was going to chase him and tackle him. Honestly, I was hoping that he’d run. I guess a good thief would’ve run before I caught up to him.”
The self-proclaimed Barney Fife is kicking off his third year with the Utes. Krystkowiak has yet to lead his team to a winning season, but kicking butt and taking names has to be a good omen for the U.
