It’s safe to say beard mania has taken over Boston.

Beards have long been a tradition in playoff hockey, but the 2013 Red Sox have taken their love for facial hair to a new level.  From Jonny Gomes‘ “the Iron Sides” to Mike Napoli‘s “the Siesta,” Boston has become a welcome home to the unofficial Beard Club, and now, even Wally the Green Monster has gotten in on the action.

The Sox mascot debuted his bushy bristles Saturday during the Red Sox’ tilt against the Yankees, and from the looks of it, he fits right in.

The Red Sox organization has fully embraced the beard phenomenon and the success that has come with it, and the team is offering $1 tickets to fans who show up with a beard — real or fake — at Wednesday’s game against the Orioles.
