It had been a while since the Red Sox had clinched the World Series at Fenway Park — 95 years, in fact — but John Farrell‘s group changed that on Wednesday night.
With Shane Victorino making a statement offensively, contributing four RBIs on the night, and John Lackey leading the way on the mound, the Red Sox won their third World Series title in 10 years, storming past the Cardinals 6-1.
Junichi Tazawa and Brandon Workman combined to keep the Cardinals off the board before turning things over to the man himself, Koji Uehara.
In typical Koji fashion, the dependable closer made quick work of St. Louis, tossing a 1-2-3 ninth inning and striking out Matt Carpenter for the final out of the game.
With the K, the celebrations commenced with Uehara jumping into David Ross‘ arms to lead things off and the rest of the team soon followed, flooding their way onto the diamond.
