Berkshire Bank Faceoff: Sidney Crosby Off to Strong Start As Bruins Come to Town

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby struggled mightily to get much of anything going in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals against the Bruins. He was actually held pointless in Boston’s four-game sweep.

Since then, however, Crosby hasn’t been held pointless very much, as the Penguins captain is off to a fine start this season. That won’t ease the sting of being shutout against the Bruins last season, but as the two teams get set to meet Wednesday night, Crosby is rolling.

He comes into the ECF rematch with eight goals and 12 points for 20 assists. He  and the Pens got back on track Monday against Carolina as they snapped a three-game skid in which Crosby picked up a pair of assists.

The Penguins will have to find a way to slow down the Bruins’ top line as well. The first line of David Krejci, Milan Lucic and Jarome Iginla has combined for 10 goals and 21 assists so far this season.

Here are the projected lines for Wednesday’s matchup.

Bruins (7-3-0, 14 points)

Milan Lucic — David Krejci — Jarome Iginla
Reilly Smtih — Patrice Bergeron — Brad Marchand
Carl Soderberg — Chris Kelly — Jordan Caron
Daniel Paille — Gregory Campbell — Shawn Thornton

Zdeno Chara — Johnny Boychuk
Dennis Seidenberg — Matt Bartkowski/Dougie Hamilton
Torey Krug — Adam McQuaid

Penguins (8-4-0, 16 points)

Chris Kunitz — Sidney Crosby — Pascal Dupuis
Jussi Jokinen — Evgeni Malkin — Matt D’Agostini
Tanner Glass — Brandon Sutter — Chuck Kobaew
Dustin Jeffrey — Joe Vitale — Craig Adams

Brooks Orpik — Paul Martin
Matt Niskanen — Kris Letang
Olli Maatta — Robert Bortuzzo
