Newly acquired players don’t always get their first choice when it comes to jersey numbers, but one Blackhawks defenseman is grateful that he got his, taking to Twitter to thank one of the world’s biggest celebrities for the opportunity.

Hockey fans everywhere absolutely lost it when Justin Bieber broke one of the game’s cardinal sins and stepped on the Hawks’ logo in the middle of their dressing room. But lost amid the anger and disgust was a jersey hanging in the background of all the pictures that documented Bieber’s crime.

The Biebs received a personalized No. 6 jersey from the Stanley Cup champs, but there’s a new No. 6 in town now.

In his second year of NHL action, Michael Kostka signed with Chicago during the offseason and earned a somewhat surprising roster spot after camp, winning the battle for the eighth defenseman spot. Grateful for the stint, the 27-year-old showed his humor in his thank you to the pop star.
